Cannot Send or Receive Email with Outlook

Problem Description:
In this scenario you can neither send emails nor receive emails with your Outlook email client. Emails that have been sent by your colleagues or friends and families do not appear in your inbox. Emails that you try to send are stuck in your Outbox.
Affected Products:
Microsoft Outlook 2013; Microsoft Outlook 2010; Microsoft Outlook 2007; Microsoft Outlook 2003.
Cause of the Problem:
  • Outlook email client is offline
  • Internet connection is not working
  • Account credentials are not correct
  • Network may require Proxy Server
  • IMAP/POP Server setting not correct
  • SMTP Server requires authentication
Instructions for Fixing Problem Sending & Receive Email Problem :
Step 1 : Check if your Outlook Email Client is Online
  1. On the Outlook menu, make sure that Work Offline is not checked.
  2. If Outlook is Offline, uncheck it, and try synchronizing your inbox and outbox.
  3. If you still cannot send or receive emails go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Check if your internet connection is working
  1. Open one of your browsers such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to see if it connects to the website, if you can, then go to Step 3.
  2. If the Browser cannot connect, try “ping” a website using the cmd prompt in Windows search bar. If Ping runs successfully go to Step 3.
  3. If you cannot connect to Internet, then you may need help from your ISP or a qualified technician.
Step 3 : Check Email Account Credentials
  1. Verify that your account user name, password, and other settings are correct in Account preferences.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. In the left pane of the Accounts dialog box, select the account.
  3. Make sure that you have entered the correct e-mail address, user name and password.
Step 4 : Check Need for Proxy Server Configuration
  1. Your network may require a proxy server to connect with the mail server.
  2. Ask your network administrator for the correct settings for your mail proxy server.
  3. Specify a mail proxy server in your computer's System Preferences.
