McAfee® Firewall Keeps Switching Off

Problem Description:
In this situation, despite repeated attempts to enable McAfee Firewall, it will automatically get switched off. The Firewall status changes to either red or gray when the Firewall is off. When the status bar is gray, the following message displays: Your Firewall is off. McAfee Firewall is designed to block hackers from gaining access to your computer.
Affected Products:
McAfee Firewall; Other McAfee Product Suites in which Firewall software is bundled.
Cause of the Problem:
  • Certain McAfee Security configuration or setup files maybe corrupted.
  • Computer maybe infected by a virus or malicious software.
  • McAfee Firewall is being blocked by a third-party antivirus software.
Fixing McAfee Firewall Switch Off Problem:
Step 1 : Run McAfee Virtual Technician (MVT)
  1. MVT is an automated self-healing tool provided by McAfee.MVT can diagnose and fix many problems related to your McAfee product.
  2. Download MVT from http://mvt.mcafee.com. Follow the prompts to install and run MVT.
  3. If MVT discovers any problems, allow it to repair those problems.
  4. If your status still shows that Firewall is not on, go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Boot the computer into Safe Mode
  1. Restart the computer. Repeatedly press the F8 key on the keyboard until you see the Boot Selection menu. Select the option to boot to Safe Mode (no networking support).
  2. Allow the computer to completely boot into safe mode, then wait five minutes without activity. Restart the computer normally.
  3. After the computer boots normally, wait another five minutes, and then check the status of Real-Time Scanning in the main product window.
  4. If your status still shows that Firewall is not on, go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Check for non-McAfee security software.
  1. Check the list of incompatible third-party applications which must be uninstalled .
  2. Activate the "Add or Remove Program" control panel applet.
  3. Search for any conflicting Security Software.
  4. Proceed to uninstall it by selecting it and then clicking on uninstall.
