Problem Description:
McAfee sometimes may need to be disabled in order to install a program, or perform some other advanced task on the computer. Disabling McAfee is different than uninstalling completely the McAfee software.
Affected Products:
McAfee AntiVirus Plus, McAfee Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection, McAfee All Access, McAfee Family Protection, McAfee Live Safe
Cause of the Problem:
  • McAfee Software Suite may be interfering with a software download or installation.
Instructions for Disabling McAfee Security Suite :
Step 1 : Open the McAfee software if not already running
  1. Click on the McAfee icon in the system tray to activate the McAfee software.
  2. If McAfee icon is not in the system tray, click on the short cut on the desktop.
  3. If no short cut on desktop you may have to go to the McAfee program folders or select McAfee from the Start Menu.
Step 2 : Disable Real Time Scanning
  1. If McAfee has been configured for real-time scanning you need to first disable this feature.
  2. Click the Real-Time scanning button – typically at the top of the window.
  3. When you click the button, you will be given the option to disable the real-time scanning.
  4. You can set the time that you want the real time scanning to be disabled.
  5. Select the time you want it to be disabled.
  6. should never go too long without active protection.
Step 3 : Disable McAfee Firewall
  1. Click the "Firewall" button on the McAfee control panel, located beneath the "Real-Time Scanning" button.
  2. Like real-time scanning you can set the time you want firewall to be disabled.
  3. Schedule the time you want Firewall disabled.
  4. Just like real-time scanning, this should not be disabled any longer than it has to.
