Problem Description:
McAfee Firewall can often interfere with the installation of applications and software packages. McAfee firewall is not a standalone product but often included with other McAfee Security suites. It is designed to block hackers from gaining access to your computer. Disabling your firewall for a short period during an installation or a download is not a big security risk.
Affected Products:
McAfee Firewall; Other McAfee Product Suites in which Firewall software is bundled.
Cause of the Problem:
  • McAfee Firewall may interfere with a software download or installation.
Instructions for Disabling McAfee Firewall:
Step 1 : Open the McAfee software if not already running
  1. Click on the McAfee icon in the system tray to activate the McAfee software.
  2. If McAfee icon is not in the system tray, click on the short cut on the desktop.
  3. If no short cut on desktop you may have to go to the McAfee progam folders or select McAfee from the Start Menu.
Step 2 : Disable McAfee Firewall
  1. Click the "Firewall" button on the McAfee control panel, located beneath the "Real-Time Scanning" button.
  2. Like real-time scanning you can set the time you want firewall to be disabled.
  3. Schedule the time you want Firewall disabled.
  4. Just like real-time scanning, this should not be disabled any longer than it has to.
