Cannot Start Microsoft Office Application

Problem Description:
Microsoft Office includes Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Visio. So depending on which application you are trying to use, the error may be something like “Microsoft Excel has Stopped Working” or “Microsoft Word has Stopped Working”.
Affected Products:
Microsoft Office 2013; Microsoft Office 2010; Microsoft Office 2007; Microsoft Office 2003.
Cause of the Problem:
  • You have not installed the latest updates.
  • An add-in may be interfering with Office.
  • Windows computer video configuration incompatible with Office.
  • Windows is infected with a Virus.
Instructions for Fixing Microsoft Office Start Problem :
Step 1 : Try Running the Office Application without Add-Ins
  1. Try starting the Office Application that is causing the problem without add-ins to see if the problem goes away. The instructions below are for Microsoft Word and Windows 8. You can use the same process for any of the other Windows operating system or Office application.
  2. In Windows 8, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Type Run in the search box, and then tap or click Run.
  3. Type Word/safe, and then click OK.
  4. If Word starts and the issue is resolved, then the problem is with Add-Ins. Remove all add-ins, and add them one at a time to find the problematic Add-In.
  5. If issue is not resolved, go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Check for and install all the latest Office Updates
  1. Windows Update, if configured properly, can automatically download and install latest Outlook updates.
  2. Installing important, recommended, and optional Office and Windows updates can often correct this issue.
  3. Each Windows version has slightly different way to install updates. For Windows 7, Open Windows Update by typing Windows Update in Start Button search box, click Windows Update.
  4. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
  5. If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, install Click Install updates.
  6. If problem not resolved go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Turn off Hardware Acceleration
  1. Try starting Outlook without add-ins to see if the problem goes away.
  2. If you are running Windows 8, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
  3. Type Run in the search box, and then tap or click Run. Type Outlook /safe, and then click OK.
  4. If the performance issue is resolved, then the problem is with Add-Ins. Remove all add-ins, and add them one at a time to find the problematic Add-In.
  5. If issue is not resolved, you need help from a certified technician.
