How to (Temporarily) Disable Norton™ Antivirus, Firewall, and Identity Safe
- Not Applicable
- Select "All Programs" from your Start menu.
- Select "Settings," then locate the "Computer Scans" section.
- Disable "Automatic Scan" by turning the setting to Off.
- Norton may prompt you to select duration for the disable. Your system is exposed to threats when its anti-virus and firewall are disabled.
- Save the settings.
- Go to Step 2.
- Norton Antivirus may also include a firewall which may interfere with your installation or internet connectivity. Firewall can be disabled the same way as the Norton Antivirus software.
- Open the Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 software suite.
- Click “Disable Smart Firewall” to temporarily shut down the firewall.
- Use the “Select the duration” drop-down in the Security Request window to select a duration for the temporary shutdown.
- Click “OK” to activate.
- Go to Step 3

- Norton Identity Safe is a free standalone application that runs as a plug-in with browsers such as Internet Explorer; Google Chrome; and Mozilla Firefox.
- To Disable Norton’s Identity Safe toolbar in Internet Explorer or Firefox click “View,” select “Toolbars” and un-check Norton Toolbar.
- To Disable Norton Toolbar in Google Chrome click the Chrome menu, select “Tools” and choose “Extensions”. Uncheck “Enabled” to turn off the toolbar.
