How to (Temporarily) Disable Norton Antivirus, Firewall, and Identity Safe

Problem Description:
Norton Antivirus may need to be disabled on certain occasions. It may conflict with your computer's ability to download or install certain programs, or can cause your computer to run slower while it scans for viruses and malware. There are several methods of disabling Norton Antivirus.
Affected Products:
Norton Antivirus which is sometimes also called Norton Protection Center.

Instructions for Disabling Norton Antivirus :
Step 1 : Disable Norton Antivirus
  1. Select "All Programs" from your Start menu.
  2. Select "Settings," then locate the "Computer Scans" section.
  3. Disable "Automatic Scan" by turning the setting to Off.
  4. Norton may prompt you to select duration for the disable. Your system is exposed to threats when its anti-virus and firewall are disabled.
  5. Save the settings.
  6. Go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Disable Norton Firewall
  1. Norton Antivirus may also include a firewall which may interfere with your installation or internet connectivity. Firewall can be disabled the same way as the Norton Antivirus software.
  2. Open the Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 software suite.
  3. Click “Disable Smart Firewall” to temporarily shut down the firewall.
  4. Use the “Select the duration” drop-down in the Security Request window to select a duration for the temporary shutdown.
  5. Click “OK” to activate.
  6. Go to Step 3
Step 3 : Disable Norton Identity Safe or Safe Web
  1. Norton Identity Safe gives website users a Safe Web rating for every website they visit.
  2. Norton Identity Safe is a free standalone application that runs as a plug-in with browsers such as Internet Explorer; Google Chrome; and Mozilla Firefox.
  3. To Disable Norton’s Identity Safe toolbar in Internet Explorer or Firefox click “View,” select “Toolbars” and un-check Norton Toolbar.
  4. To Disable Norton Toolbar in Google Chrome click the Chrome menu, select “Tools” and choose “Extensions”. Uncheck “Enabled” to turn off the toolbar.
